What is El Torcal de Antequera?
El Torcal is located near the historic town of Antequera, about 50 kilometres from Málaga. The area was formed during the Jurassic period, around 150 million years ago, when this part of Spain was still under the sea. As the water receded and erosion from wind and rain continued for centuries, the famous, rugged rock formations that El Torcal is known for today were created.
The rocks sometimes resemble stacked pancakes, other times animals or human figures. No two rocks are the same, which makes every walk a new surprise.
